A man once said, "God is great in great things, but very great in little things." Many people think that God is interested only in big things, and will not want to be bothered with our small concerns. Actually, all we have to do is observe a father and his child, and we will learn otherwise - especially as we realize that a good man's "father-heart" is a reflection of our heavenly Father's heart.
Let's think a moment about a king. Not just anyone can have access to a king. The majority of people would hesitate to try to approach him. But not so the king's own child. He can even climb right up on the king's lap, and can whisper into the king's ears, asking all sorts of favors - and, if it's something his father knows is good for him, the king's child will quite likely get what he asks for!
If we have truly given ourselves to God - having repented of our sin against Him in His holiness - and we are "born again" (having now new hearts, and "a different spirit"), then we are His dear children. This fact is the basis of and the secret to the privilege of prayer. We believe that we have been given the right to come to Him in prayer, and that as our Father, He wants us to come - with all our burdens, questions and confusions, needs and wishes. His beloved children can be assured that nothing that concerns us or interests us is too small for Him to be interested in.
A story is told of mountain climbers in the Swiss Alps. Upon reaching a peak, they stood admiring the sublime view. One man in their party was a scientist who took out a pocket microscope, and putting a fly that he had caught there on the mountaintop under the glass, he showed his friends something very interesting. Although household flies in the valleys below had naked legs, this little fellow had legs thickly covered with hair. The same God who made the lofty mountains cared for the comfort of even the tiniest creatures He had created! And this loving God is our God. He who made the mighty, flaming suns also made the tiniest insect - fashioned the lenses of its eye, painted the colors of its dainty wings, and, yes, provided it with socks and mittens! He is interested in the little just as much as in the great and awe-inspiring. We can bring everything to such a God in prayer, because our Father is so interested that He takes His children one by one and cares for the details of their lives. To Him, there are no little things. The God of the infinite is also the God of the infinitesimal! He will surely take care of you.
