Fed by Poetry
There is something about poetry, and song. As music can travel through walls, under doors, and enter rooms where other things cannot find entrance, so it seems that poetry can enter into the human spirit by some unseen doorway, when other words and thoughts, treatises and arguments cannot make their way in. For me, personally, poetry has very frequently fed my soul. In the unique manner which poetry possesses to strike a chord in hearts, it has often resonated within and left its tune indelibly upon my memory.
I do not speak only of rhymes and stanzas. There are many kinds of poetry. It can be of few words or of many; measured or free flowing; simple and succinct, or of such high and soaring essence that my spirit is lifted into a rapture by its beauty.
I believe that poetry is a precious gift from God to humankind, and that it is one of the avenues He has provided for our spirits to journey into His very heart. It is not to be explained how He uses the simple medium of poetry to connect with us, and to connect us with such deep feeling to our fellow man, but it is real – true, and pure, and excellent. I for one will be forever grateful for poetry.
I would like to share with you, friends, noble poetry that has fed my hungry spirit. My prayer is that you will be fed by poetry.
