When a man knows his source, he can begin to be what he was intended to be. Jesus said, "Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father." (John 14:9) It is in seeing Jesus that we see our Maker, our source.
We have so many unanswered questions. In so many ways we are bound up - like the woman bent over, who could not lift herself up. We feel that our hope is like a bird with a broken wing, and our poor hearts are discouraged. But the gracious Master walked into a synagogue long ago, and spoke authoritatively, "Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity," and immediately she was "made straight." (Luke 13:10-13) The same Jesus will walk today into our lives, into our homes, if we will give Him a chance. His touch has still its ancient power to "heal the brokenhearted, to give sight to the blind, and to set the captives free" - for that is what He came to this earth to do, and He is living still, able and willing. No one can remain broken or crippled or crooked if he grips the hand of the Lord of Life.
Even the best the world can offer us cannot provide the satisfaction that our hearts need. Only God can slake our thirst and satisfy our longing. Our problem is that we do not know God. "Thus says the Lord, Let not the wise and skillful person glory and boast in his wisdom and skill; neither let the mighty glory in his strength and power; let not the rich man glory in his riches, his temporal satisfactions. But let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me (personally, and rightly discerns my character - of lovingkindness and righteousness)." (Jeremiah 9:23-24) He is very willing to make Himself known to us - but there are conditions.
No part of our nature must be barred off from God, nothing at all in our hearts hidden away behind a curtain - every chamber there must be open to Him. Above all, there must be surrender - all that we are and have must be His. If we will get on our face before Him, He is ready to reveal Himself to the seeking heart. And when we know Him, and are known by Him, we will be made whole, we will become what we were meant to be - and we will be at rest.
